Medvedev Looks to Reach Shanghai Semifinals; Sabalenka, Swiatek Featured in Wuhan on Friday

Friday’s Preview in Shanghai and Wuhan

Friday’s action at the Rolex Shanghai Masters will feature former US Open winner Daniil Medvedev back on court, facing No. 7 seed Alex de Minaur for a place in the semifinals. 

Leading de Minaur 7-4 in career head-to-head meetings, Medvedev will be looking to win his first title since the Rome Masters in 2023. 

De Minaur, who is currently ranked No. 7 in the world, will be aiming to win his 11th career title this week.

Other matches on Friday will feature No. 12 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech

On Thursday, No. 4 seed Novak Djokovic and qualifier Valentin Vacherot reached the semifinals. Djokovic ousted Zizou Bergs 6-3, 7-5, and Vacherot defeated No. 10 Holger Rune 2-6, 7-6(4)m 6-4.

Vacherot is currently ranked No. 204 in the world.

Djokovic will be aiming to win his 101st career title this week in Shanghai.

Sabalenka and Swiatek Featured in Wuhan on Friday

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and world No. 2 Iga Swiatek will return to action in Wuhan, China on Friday.

Sabalenka will face No. 8 seed Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals, and Swiatek will go up against Jasmine Paolini from Italy.

On Thursday, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff, Katerina Siniakova and Laura Siegemund were also victorious.

Gauff defeated Zhang Shuai from China 6-3, 6-2.
