Makai Lemon breaks down watching inspirational message from parents after getting drafted

The Philadelphia Eagles made some bold moves during the 2026 NFL Draft. Philly stole wide receiver Makai Lemon from Pittsburgh while he was on the phone with them in the first round. It was a huge moment that clearly meant the world to the young wide receiver.

Lemon got emotional when watching a message from his parents shortly after being drafted.

“Hey son, at this point you’re on the mountaintop but it wasn’t always like that. It was the valleys that brought you here,” Lemon’s father said in the video. “Your journey is just the beginning and I can’t wait to see where this takes you.”

Lemon was a polarizing evaluation for scouts as some criticized his performance during pre-draft interviews. But that did not stop Philly from using the 20th overall pick to draft him.

“You have dreamt about this day for so long and I am more than proud of you,” Lemon’s mother said. “I have told you a million times how proud I am, but I am most proud of the person you’ve become. It’s my dream to watch your dream come true. Just work your butt off, we’re always here to catch you if you fall.”

Lemon will be set up to thrive in Philadelphia. He could be in for a big role if A.J. Brown ends up getting traded this summer.

“It sounds cliche, but I feel like sometimes I give up on myself when things got tough,” Lemon admitted. “But they just never gave up on me. I feel like I wouldn’t be here without them, so just thank y’all so much.”

It will be exciting to see how Lemon performs during his rookie season this fall.
