LSU’s Zavion Thomas reveals deep familial Saints fandom before 2026 NFL Draft

The 2026 NFL Draft is just around the corner, and for Louisiana State University wide receiver Zavion Thomas, the possibility of staying home is becoming a very real, and potentially very wet reality.

Thomas recently took a Top 30 visit to the New Orleans Saints, a franchise that holds a legendary status in his household. While most prospects spend their visits grilling coaches on playbooks, Thomas spent some of his time making sure his family was geared up. The Woodmere, Louisiana, native snagged some team hats for his 80-year-old grandfather, a man whose fandom for the Black and Gold knows no bounds.

If New Orleans calls his name on draft night, Thomas expects his grandpa to celebrate in spectacular fashion.

“He might jump through the TV. Go outside and jump in the pool,” Thomas joked during an interview with Jordan Schultz. “He’s like 80. It would be the best day of his life.”

LSU WR Zavion Thomas visited the #Saints and shared a great story: his grandfather is a HUGE Saints fan, so he made sure to grab him some team hats.

If the Saints draft him, how would his grandpa react?

Drafting Thomas wouldn’t just be a “feel-good” local story for the Saints; it would be a major boost to their depth chart. The explosive wideout is coming off a stellar 2025 season where he emerged as a primary target for the LSU Tigers. He finished the campaign with 41 receptions for 488 yards and four touchdowns, proving his reliability as a playmaker.

His poise against elite competition peaked during a November showdown against the Alabama Crimson Tide. In a tough 20-9 loss, Thomas was the lone bright spot for the offense, leading all Tigers receivers with five catches for 49 yards.

Beyond his hands, Thomas brings a dangerous return element to the table, a skill set he honed earlier in his career as a Freshman All-American. As the draft nears, the Saints have a chance to bring a local star back home. If they do, someone might want to have a lifeguard and a towel ready for the Thomas family pool party.
