Motherwell’s Lennon Miller is set to follow fellow Scotland stars Scott McTominay, Lewis Ferguson and Billy Gilmour in moving to Serie A, with his long-awaited transfer “accelerating” towards a conclusion.

Miller’s future has been the subject of speculation for months, and now the Motherwell midfielder is closing in on a move to Udinese.

Bologna had tried to hijack the deal in recent days, but transfer expert Gianluigi Longari now reports that a move to their Serie A rivals is looking increasingly likely.

Motherwell stand to receive €5.2 million (£6m) for the 18-year-old, who only has one year left to run on his contract.

Miller has yet to feature for the Fir Park side this season because of injury but has over 75 senior appearances to his credit already.

Speaking on Saturday, Motherwell boss Jens Askou admitted the transfer speculation surrounding the teenager was a major reason he was left out of a scoreless draw with St Mirren.

“It’s not a secret that there are things going on in the background. We know he’s been out for four weeks,” the Dane told the media.

“How much risk are you willing to take on a player like him in that situation? The decision was that we kept him out of it.”

Miller moves for Motherwell record

Miller has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €10.4m, which suggests that Motherwell are being significantly shortchanged over the move.

This has been an ongoing problem for Scottish clubs outside the Glasgow giants of Rangers and Celtic. Indeed, the biggest sale outside of this pair was Craig Gordon’s 2007 move from Hearts to Sunderland for €10.8m.

Miller’s move to Italy, meanwhile, will smash Motherwell’s transfer record, which currently stands at the €3m Celtic paid to secure David Turnbull in 2020.
