The Green Bay Packers know running back Josh Jacobs is an invaluable piece of their offense. Now, the franchise will get a closer look at what his younger brother brings to the table.
The Packers have invited Isaiah Jacobs to rookie minicamp, via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. While there are no guarantees in terms of a contract, the younger Jacobs will now have an opportunity to prove he belongs at the NFL level.
Jacobs spent two seasons at Maryland before transferring to UAB for his final three collegiate campaigns. Overall, he ran 222 times for 930 yards and seven touchdowns. He added another 48 grabs for 247 yards and a touchdown. As a senior, Jacobs set career-highs across the board with 79 rushes for 342 yards and four touchdowns alongside 82 receiving yards and another score.
The Packers did lose Emanuel Wilson to the Seahawks in free agency. However, it’s going to be a difficult task for Jacobs to crack the roster. His big brother remains the top dog while Chris Brooks and MarShawn Lloyd are among those battling for backup duties.
With Jacobs on a rookie minicamp offer, he’ll need to put together a truly impressive performance to just advance to training camp. But at least along the way, he’ll have his big brother helping him reach for greater heights. It should be easier for the running back to get acclimated having his brother being a leader on the team he’s trying out for.
Still, the challenge in front of Jacobs is monumental. At the very least, the Jacobs family will be able to share a special moment during rookie minicamp.
