The New York Giants absolutely nailed the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. New York landed one of the draft’s best players in Arvell Reese and upgraded their offensive line with Francis Mauigoa. The Giants shot down the idea that one veteran player needs to be traded after the Reese pick.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh had one simple question for GM Joe Schoen when asked if the team plans to trade Kayvon Thibodeaux after drafting Reese.
“We keep all the good players as much as we can, right?” Harbaugh asked, per SNY. Schoen simply replied “yup” which effectively shut down the question.
Harbaugh went on to explain that New York will play Reese at inside linebacker and WILL linebacker.
“Arvell is a versatile player and we’re going to play him at inside backer, WILL linebacker,” Harbaugh said. “Our defense is pretty flexible. Positionless you might call it. We have an opportunity to move those guys around. He’ll line up next to Tremaine and he’ll be in the A gap, the B gap, the C gap, the D gap off the edge. He’ll be moving around with all of our guys. Abdul, Brian, Kayvon, and Tremaine.”
Harbaugh continued to praise Reese, even acknowledging that he was New York’s highest-graded non-quarterback in the 2026 draft class.
The Giants now have an absolutely stacked defensive front seven with several talented pass rushers. Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and Thibodeaux project as the team’s starting edge rushers, but Reese can obvious slide outside when needed.
New York could have a truly ferocious defense if they can replace Dexter Lawrence on the interior.
Perhaps the Giants will target a defensive tackle early on Day 2 of the draft.
