Jets rumors: Insiders make eye-opening NFL Draft QB predictions

With the 2026 NFL Draft coming up with the New York Jets, the team finds itself still looking for a long-term answer at quarterback, which could be solved during the event. While Ty Simpson is the one name that could be linked to the Jets, these football insiders give certain predictions on the team taking a quarterback in the draft.

In the latest ESPN column centering around the 2026 NFL Draft, Rich Cimini would give his predictions on what round New York will take a quarterback. He would say the fourth round, with the one player to watch out for being Drew Allar out of Penn State, as he “had a private workout” recently with the team.

“Keep an eye on Drew Allar (Penn State), who recently had a private workout at the Jets’ facility,” Cimini wrote. “He’s a developmental prospect with great size (6-foot-5, 228 pounds) and arm strength. Of course, this becomes moot if they pick Ty Simpson (Alabama) at Nos. 16 or 33.”

The Jets might not use a high pick on a quarterback in the NFL Draft

At the moment, Geno Smith looks to be the quarterback that starts for the Jets this upcoming season, but the team is still looking for a player that they can develop. However, Jordan Reid of ESPN would predict that with the three selections they have inside the top 33, they’ll opt for a “best-player-available approach.”

“Don’t be surprised if they end Round 1 with three picks … using none of them on a QB,” Reid wrote. “The Jets are expected to be aggressive in boosting their wide receivers room, and Omar Cooper Jr. (Indiana) is one player they are reported to be extremely high on. They view him as an ideal complementary WR2 to Garrett Wilson.”

It remains to be seen if New York will go hunting for a quarterback early in the 206 NFL Draft, as Simpson appears to be the name that many teams could be high on. The first round of the NFL Draft starts on Thursday, April 23, with the first Jets pick at No. 2 overall, as the team looks to improve after finishing 3-14.
