Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley has emerged as a loan target for Ipswich Town.
Manager Kieran McKenna is looking for quality to bolster his engine room after seeing an ambitious £20m move for Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney fall through.
Miley is understood to be on a list alongside Bournemouth’s Lewis Cook and Philip Billing.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has just brought in Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa for £39million but still believes he is light in midfield after the departure of Sean Longstaff to Leeds.
While his next switch of focus will be to bring in at least one striker, such as Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, Howe will be reluctant to let Miley go, particularly with all the games they will have to play in the first part of the season.
That could leave Ipswich to work through their other options with Bournemouth’s experienced pair Cook, 28, and Billing, 29, high on their list.

Andoni Iraola is hopeful they will bring in more additions so may yet need Billing and Cook to see him through the final weeks of August before considering letting them go at the end of the window.
Cook has been recovering from a ligament injury picked up early in pre season.
