The arrival of Mike Tomlin at NBC has had an effect on Football Night in America analyst Chris Simms, which has “hurt” the former NFL quarterback.
During the Apr. 27, 2026, edition of PFT Live (via Awful Announcing), Simms revealed that he was not being brought back for Football Night in America this season due to Tomlin’s arrival.
“I’m not on the show anymore, Mike,” Simms revealed to Mike Florio. “I don’t know if anyone told you. I will not be part of Football Night in America. They told me that last week, so that’s just going to be a different aspect.”
He then conceded that the news “hurt because I do love it.” Simms isn’t the only longtime contributor who will not be there in 2026, as Tony Dungy also exited the program.

Tomlin’s arrival at NBC has been a major move for the network. He joins the network’s Sunday Night Football pregame show, Football Night in America, as an analyst.
However, there are only so many seats at the table. Unfortunately, Simms was the odd man out this year, and it’s unclear what his future holds at NBC.
Simms has been with NBC since 2016 as an analyst for Notre Dame football. In 2019, Simms became a full-time employee of NBC, joining Football Night in America and becoming a panelist on ProFootballTalk Live.
Previously, Simms played college football at Texas before being drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft.
During his NFL career, Simms played for the Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, and Denver Broncos. He was also a coaching assistant with the New England Patriots in 2012.
Tomlin joined NBC, landing his first gig since his resignation from the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier in the year. He coached the Steelers for 19 seasons, winning a Super Bowl in that time. His teams never finished with a losing record during that stint as well.
