Goiânia MotoGP Sunday Round Up: Broken Asphalt, Fast Aprilias, And Is This The New MotoGP Order?

Sunday’s MotoGP race in Brazil left us with mixed feelings. Though Sunday wasn’t as bizarre and stupid as Saturday had been, the decision to shorten the MotoGP race 6 minutes before the start of the warm up lap because of track degradation just added another level of farce to a weekend that might euphemistically be described as rife with incident. Which is a shame, because the atmosphere was Jerez levels of electric, the Brazilian fans (and fans from all over South America) were about as loud, passionate, and excited about the event as it is humanly possible to be.

I won’t rehash all the reasons Brazil went wrong here, as I covered all that in great depth on Saturday. But the reason for reducing the MotoGP race from the scheduled 31 laps to 23 was because the track was coming apart in the section Turn 10 and Turn 12. Why 23 laps? Because that is the 75% of original race distance, the minimum required to constitute a full race and award full points.
