After another blown lead, this time against the Chicago Bears, the New York Giants have made the decision to fire head coach Brian Daboll, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. For the third straight year, Daboll has led the Giants to a 2-8 start and has gotten rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart in some tough situations, with him being evaluated for four concussions this season.
Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will be the interim coach for the rest of the season, and the hope is that he can get the most out of the players as the year continues.
The Giants will now have a vacant head coaching position after the season.
Going into the fourth quarter against the Bears, the Giants led 20-10, and they had the lead for most of the final stanza. With around three minutes left in the game, Caleb Williams threw a two-yard touchdown to Rome Odunze, and the Giants only led by three points.
The Bears were able to get the ball back after getting a stop on defense, and they scored another touchdown to give them the lead. The Giants were once again not able to execute on offense, and the Bears ultimately won. The Giants have had a few ugly losses this season, with the biggest one probably being against the Denver Broncos.
Throughout the season, Dart has also been evaluated for several concussions, and against the Bears, he was ruled out in the fourth quarter after hitting his head against the turf. That led Russell Wilson to take his place as the starting quarterback, and he wasn’t able to do much in his place.
The Giants have had a rough year, and they’ve been hit with some big injuries to some of their key players, such as Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers. It felt like at some point, if the Giants didn’t get it together, the writing was on the wall for Daboll. Now we’re here.
