Fritz, Shelton, Pegula and Bouchard Highlight Day 4 Action at 2025 National Bank Open
Wednesday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results and Previews from Toronto and Montreal
Wednesday’s action at the National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada will feature No. 2 seed Taylor Fritz back in action, taking on Roberto Carballes Baena from Spain.
Fritz, who is currently ranked No. 4 in the world, recently made the semifinals of Wimbledon. The American has won two titles on the year and will be looking for a strong showing in Toronto with the US Open starting in less than a month.
Other matches on the day will feature No. 4 seed Ben Shelton taking on Adrian Mannarino from France, No. 6 seed Andrey Rublev going up against Hugo Gaston, and No. 7 seed Frances Tiafoe facing Yosuke Watanuki form Japan.
Washington winner and No. 9 seed Alex de Minaur will also be in action against Francisco Comesana.
Canadians Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriel Diallo will play their first round matches against Fabian Marozsan and Matteo Gigante, respectively.
Fan-favorite and hometown star Denis Shapovalov crashed out the event on Tuesday evening, losing to Learner Tien in straight sets.
Top seed Alexander Zverev needed two sets to dispatch Adam Walton from Australia in the day’s last match on Centre Court. The encounter featured a 52-shot rally in the first set tiebreaker.
Pegula, Bouchard Return to Action on Wednesday
Defending champion Jessica Pegula will take on Greek star Maria Sakkari later today in Montreal. Pegula, who made the US Open final last year, is widely known as one of the best hard-court players in the world.
Montreal native Genie Bouchard returns to action in what could be her final match as a professional player. Taking on Belinda Bencic later tonight, Bouchard extended her career by picking up a first round victory over Emiliana Arango on Wednesday.
Other matches that will take place on Wednesday will feature No. 2 seed and recent Wimbledon winner Iga Swiatek, No. 5 seed Amanda Anisimova and No. 6 seed Madison Keys all in action.
Canadian star Victoria Mboko captured another impressive victory on Tuesday evening, ousting former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin 6-2, 6-3.
Mboko, 18, will move up to at least No. 73 in the world when the latest rankings are released. Mboko will take on Marie Bouzkova from the Czech Republic in her third round match later today.
