Former Ipswich captain lifts lid on ruthless behind-the-scenes transfer dealings with cryptic post in response to Omari Hutchinson’s move to Nottingham Forest

Former Ipswich captain Sam Morsy has pulled back the curtain on the cut-throat nature of modern transfers.

His words come amid reports that Ipswich are close to offloading England Under 21 international Omari Hutchinson to Nottingham Forest for £37.5million.

Morsy captained the club to Premier League promotion in 2023-24 and played over 150 games for Ipswich before departing for Kuwait SC last month.

He shared a scathing message on X, capturing the less glamorous ‘political’ side of transfer deals.

The 33-year-old wrote: ‘The ugly side of football. When a club no longer wants you, whether it be performance based or political based they will do what ever it takes to get you out the club.

‘Name off locker, train with the under 21s, completely discarded. Manager and staff no longer even recognising you.

‘So when players get close to really good moves and they feel the value is matched players and representatives have now a strong stance.

‘There is no right or wrong in all of this. Young Omari and the club have done exceptionally well for each other.

‘Without knowing the ins and outs the transition should have been smoother and both player and club should have been happy.

‘A pivotal player in promotion a great team mate a good profit for the club. Hopefully his contribution will be not forgotten by the ITFC family.’

Hutchinson made 32 appearances for Kieran McKenna’s side in the Premier League last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

The 21-year-old, who has been capped twice at senior level for Jamaica, previously spent time at the academies of Arsenal and Chelsea.

Hutchinson’s Ipswich record stands at 82 competitive appearances, 14 goals, and eight assists over two seasons.
