The Philadelphia Eagles have been one of the NFC’s best teams over the past few seasons. Philadelphia dominated Kansas City in Super Bowl 59, blowing them out 40-22. One former Eagles player recently stood up for Philly after another player bashed their talent on social media.
Commanders defensive end Charles Omenihu did not hold back when talking about Super Bowl 59 between the Eagles and Chiefs. Omenihu, who played for the Chiefs at the time, claimed that he wasn’t worried about playing the Eagles.
“No, I thought we were gonna dog ’em” Omenihu said on April 9th via Speakeasy. “I thought it was going to be a slugfest and we were going to get it out at the end, to be honest.”
Omenihu then made a bold statement, claiming the 49ers team that lost to the Chiefs in Super Bowl 58 was more talented than the Eagles in Super Bowl 59.
“That 49ers Super Bowl team was better than that Eagles team,” Omenihu declared. He then listed some of San Francisco’s starters from that season to punctuate his point.
Former Eagles cornerback Darius Slay was not about to accept any Super Bowl slander surrounding his former team.
“Yea buddy tripping y’all ain’t stand a chance! How u go talk like that and we took the starters out ,” Slay replied. “Could’ve put 50 on them boys frfr.”
Omenihu played for the 49ers from 2021-22, which may have influenced his opinion of the 2023 squad.
Slay retired from the NFL back in March after rumors of a possible reunion with the Eagles. But Slay’s recent comments prove that he is truly an Eagle for life.
