Falcons’ Kyle Pitts makes $15 million franchise tag decision as offseason workouts begin

The Atlanta Falcons have dealt with the Kyle Pitts contract saga in the offseason. But he remained optimistic about staying with the team. And Pitts made a $15 million franchise tag decision as offseason workouts begin, according to a post on X by Ian Rapoport.

“TE Kyle Pitts, who was franchise tagged, is signing his tag and showing up for workouts. The two sides can still negotiate a long-term deal, but he locks in his $15.045M fully guaranteed.”

It seems like a gesture of goodwill from Pitts. He can be fully invested in the team’s 2026 offseason and preseason plans. And perhaps the Falcons reward him with a long-term deal.

Falcons TE Kyle Pitts has stepped into the spotlight

Pitts took things to a new level in 2025. He caught 88 passes for 928 yards with five touchdowns. And he earned his first All-Pro honor with a second-team selection.

The five-year veteran appears to be on the verge of NFL stardom. He may already be there.

It would make sense for the Falcons to negotiate a long-term deal with Pitts. He seemed to finally reach his long-expected potential during the 2025 season.

Included in the mix, Pitts had a game against the Buccaneers that turned NFL heads. He caught 11 passes for 166 yards with three touchdowns. Tampa Bay had no answers.

And Pitts’ strong season came despite an injury to quarterback Michael Penix Jr. that disrupted the flow of the offseason for a period of time. Heading into the 2026 season, Pitts will have the opportunity to work with Penix and new quarterback arrival, Tua Tagovailoa.

Of course, there’s still talk of the Falcons trading Pitts. But if they are serious about playoff hopes in 2026, it makes more sense for them to keep Pitts. That’s true even if they don’t get a long-term deal worked out.

Pitts makes a great partner with receiver Drake London. It gives the defense two big bodies to contend with on any given play. If the Falcons get quality quarterback play in 2026, the offense should perform well.
