With the Philadelphia Eagles preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft, there has been immense speculation regarding the position they will likely take to start. While the rumors have shown the Eagles taking a wide receiver, since there have been heavy reports on star A.J. Brown’s potential exit, the latest from ESPN could signal more signs of that.
However, ESPN insider Tim McManus would say that while a hit could be taken to Philadelphia if they trade Brown, the team could use its first pick at No. 23 on a player in the trenches.
“The Eagles view DeVonta Smith as a WR1 capable of thriving with a larger workload and added a couple of complementary veterans in Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore,” McManus said. “That said, the receiving corps would take an obvious hit if Brown is traded. But as much as skill position players have helped, the Eagles’ long run of success has been largely predicated on the strength of their offensive and defensive lines.”
“The expectation here is for them to continue investing in the trenches in this draft, particularly after an injury-plagued season,” McManus continued. “The organization has been disciplined in taking the best available player, but if it’s close, the tiebreaker will likely go to the big men.”
Other ESPN analyst says Eagles could be a team that trades up for receiver
In the same column at ESPN regarding what the Eagles could do in the NFL Draft at the wide receiver position, analyst Jordan Reid would say that the team should be watched as one that “could get aggressive in trading up for a receiver.”
“Circle the Eagles as a team that could get aggressive in trading up for a receiver,” Reid wrote. “Jordyn Tyson (Arizona State) is a player to watch, as he could still be on the board in the Nos. 17-20 range. GM Howie Roseman is notorious for drafting replacements for veterans a year in advance.”
It remains to be seen what Philadelphia does not only at the NFL Draft when the first round starts on Thursday, April 26, but also what the team does with Brown.
