Eagles GM Howie Roseman breaks silence on ESPN’s ‘unfair’ Jalen Hurts hit job

Drama is maybe the best word to describe the Philadelphia Eagles, as it seems to follow them no matter if it’s the regular season or the offseason. Whether it’s actions on the field and the sidelines or rumors floating around the league, the drama has not yet stopped. On Tuesday, general manager Howie Roseman is seemingly fed up with how ESPN is covering his quarterback, Jalen Hurts.

While talking with media members on Tuesday, Roseman acknowledged an article written by ESPN and was not too happy about it,” according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. He called the article “unfair” and believes it’s an unfortunate scenario his star quarterback and organization are in.

“So, with us, if we have any issues with any of our players, we talk with them directly,” said Roseman… “We’re not hiding behind anything. We will talk to our players directly. I think that it’s unfair. It’s unfair to have these articles written, but I understand it’s also what sells at this point. I think it’s unfortunate.”

The article in question, written by ESPN’s Tim McManus and Jeremy Fowler, criticized the Eagles’ offense and painted a scenario that Jalen Hurts is seemingly “at a crossroads” with the organization. McManus and Fowler claimed the passing game has been an issue in Philadelphia, which has forced the offense to rely too much on running back Saquon Barkley, while it has frustrated wide receiver AJ Brown, leading to the trade rumors.

“The failed play accentuates the crossroads that awaits Hurts and the Eagles’ coaching staff in 2026. The passing operation has fallen into deep ruts over the past several seasons, forcing the most expensive offensive roster in football to become overly reliant on the success of Saquon Barkley and the ground game,” reported McManus and Fowler.

“It has been an ongoing source of angst for some internally — most publicly expressed by star receiver AJ Brown, the subject of trade talks this offseason,” continued the ESPN article. “Some of that growing frustration in 2025 was directed at Hurts, team sources said, including by Brown, whose long-standing relationship with the quarterback has been tested over their four years in Philadelphia.”

It’s still early in the offseason, but Howie Roseman and the coaching staff have seemed to do their best to shut down any of the rumors swirling around the franchise. For now, Jalen Hurts remains on the roster after ending last season with 3,224 passing yards, 421 rushing yards, and 33 total touchdowns while completing 64.8% of his pass attempts.
