The Los Angeles Rams shocked the entire NFL by picking Ty Simpson in the 2026 NFL Draft. Los Angeles kept their interest in Simpson close to the vest, with rumors of their interest in Simpson only popping up hours before the draft. If there’s one person outside the organization who saw this coming, it has to be ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky.
Orlovsky was high on Simpson throughout the pre-draft process, even calling him the top quarterback in this draft class. So it should be no surprise that Orlovsky took his victory lap after the Rams picked Simpson way above his consensus spot.
Orlovsky was visibly excited on the set of ESPN’s draft coverage after the Simpson pick.
“Fudge yeah!” Orlovsky screamed shortly after the pick. “Gosh that makes me feel good.”
Orlovsky also made a pair of social media posts later that evening to celebrate the pick. He wrote “conviction” and “The work always wins” in celebration of his correct prediction.
Simpson finally responded to Orlovsky’s relentless praise on Thursday afternoon just before the draft.
“He has his right to his own opinion, but I appreciate Dan standing on the table for me and I respect him a lot,” Simpson added. “He played the position and knows and understands how hard it is to play quarterback, especially at a high level in the NFL.”
Rams QB Matthew Stafford was looped in about the Simpson pick ahead of time. LA is willing to let Stafford play as long as he wants before handing the reins over to Simpson.
It will be fascinating to see what the Rams do on Day 2 of the draft now that Simpson is in the building.
