Dallas Cowboys safety Markquese Bell has been arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and marijuana. Per a report by ESPN’s Todd Archer, who obtained records from Collin County jail, Bell was arrested Friday in Texas. The Cowboys are aware of the arrest and declined to comment.
Bell could receive hefty penalties for the incident via the NFL’s personal conduct policy. He could be subject to suspension or a fine for his possession of an illegal substance, and is also subject to federal law, as possessing a controlled substance is classified as a felony, while marijuana possession is a Class B misdemeanor.
Markquese Bell is a Florida A&M alumnus who was a standout for the Rattlers during his college career. He played two seasons for Florida A&M and finished his senior season in 2021 with 95 tackles, 71 solo tackles, 2 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, and 1 pass deflection. He was a four-star recruit following his time in high school, but ultimately started his college career playing for Coffeyville Community College. He then joined Florida A&M’s roster under then head coach Willie Simmons in 2019.
He ultimately went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft and was picked up in undrafted free agency by the Dallas Cowboys. He then worked his way up to become a key member of the Cowboys’ defensive front and signed a 3-year, $9 million contract extension in March 2025. He played 17 games in the 2025 season, starting in 3 games. He finished the season with 41 total tackles, with 20 solo tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception, and 3 passes defended.
