Chris Simms wonders why Aaron Rodgers would actually want to return to Steelers

With the continuous question being if Aaron Rodgers will return to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2026 season, the answer is still up in the air, as a decision hasn’t been made. While all Steelers fans are waiting for any updates on Rodgers, analyst and former player Chris Simms gives his thoughts and even questions why the veteran would want to return.

Speaking with Mike Floio on PFT Live, the topic was on the looming decision of Rodgers and Pittsburgh, with Simms saying how he is not surprised to see a decision being delayed this much. He would question first how it will be a new offense this season under head coach Mike McCarthy and offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio.

“I’m not shocked that Aaron Rodgers is still dragging his feet and doesn’t know what to do….I wouldn’t be shocked if he just wants to wait till mini-camp…It’s a new coaching staff in there. So we’re going to go into mini camp again…they want to run a new system. So now wait, Rogers isn’t gonna be there at all, and then he’s gonna show up at mini camp and do that, and then what? Impose will on the football team and go, ‘I want to go back to the plays we ran last year.’”

Chris Simms shares more concern regarding Steelers, Aaron Rodgers

Simms would also put himself in Rodgers shoes and further question the quality of the Steelers, saying that while the franchise isn’t bad, there is concern that they can’t be a “real power player” in the NFL.

“So that, to me, is another reason I go, maybe Aaron Rodgers just looking at this going, ‘Man, Baltimore, Joe Burrow, the AFC. I mean, we were so outclassed in the wild card game last year with another quarterback that was actively trying to lose the game against us, and we still got blown out.’”

It remains to be seen if Rodgers returns to the Steelers after winning the AFC North last season with a 10-7 record, but losing to C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
