Chiefs rumors: Insider reveals 1 ‘hot name to watch’ amid cryptic NFL Draft plans

The Kansas City Chiefs have two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, starting with the ninth selection. And while some of Round 1 is starting to crystallize, most draft experts are still in the dark about what KC plans to do with its first pick. However, there is one intriguing name starting to get connected to the Chiefs.

“What we’re hearing about the Chiefs’ draft: In talking to sources both in Kansas City and around the league, there seems to be no strong indicator of where the Chiefs will go with either of their first-round picks,” Matt Miller writes for ESPN. “The Chiefs will see how the board falls and have needs at core positions such as offensive tackle, wide receiver, edge rusher, defensive tackle and cornerback. A hot name to watch at corner is Jermod McCoy (Tennessee) … if he makes it to No. 9.”

McCoy is a 6-foot-1, 188-pound CB who is arguably the best all-around cover man in the draft. Based on talent, skills, and athleticism alone, he’d likely be the no-brainer first corner taken in this draft. Coming off a knee injury, though, his draft stock may have taken a hit. Still, after not testing at the NFL combine, McCoy ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash at his Pro Day, which may have moved him back into the top 10.

If not McCoy, the Chiefs could go in several different directions at No. 9 based on their needs laid out by Miller above. CB Mansoor Delane, offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, wider reciver Jordyn Tyson, and edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. are all names connected to the Chiefs in the 2026 NFL Mock Draft world.
