Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes has hilarious take on NFL Draft memory

It has already been nine years since the Kansas City Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft, and it’s unlikely they regret the decision after winning three Super Bowls.

However, if Mahomes could go back in time, he might change something about his appearance during his introductory press conference after being drafted.

The Chiefs posted a throwback video of Mahomes during what appears to be his introductory press conference after being drafted 10th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Mahomes was wearing a blue blazer and a red tie. In hindsight, Mahomes isn’t thrilled about his appearance.

“Someone got to fix my tie [laughing crying emoji],” Mahomes said, responding to the Chiefs’ post.

The Chiefs selected Mahomes with the 10th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas Tech. Sometimes, draft picks don’t work out. However, Mahomes has been a hit for the team.

During his collegiate career, Mahomes passed for 11,252 yards, 93 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions. He also rushed for 845 yards and 22 touchdowns. He went 13-16 as the team’s starting quarterback. His best statistical season was his junior year, during which he passed for over 5,000 yards and 41 touchdowns.

Since taking over as the team’s starting quarterback in 2018, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to five Super Bowls, winning three. He is also a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time NFL MVP.

Going into 2026, the Chiefs are hoping to rebound after a disappointing 2025 campaign. The Chiefs won just six games and missed the playoffs for the first time since Mahomes took the reins as the team’s starting quarterback. Mahomes’ season also ended abruptly when he tore his ACL against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Before his injury, Mahomes passed for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 422 yards (a career-high) and five touchdowns. Throughout his young career, Mahomes has already passed for 35,939 yards, 267 touchdowns, and 85 interceptions.
