Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes gets new superstar weapon in Peter Schrager’s mock draft

The Kansas City Chiefs are in full-on preparation mode as the clock ticks until the NFL Draft, which is slated to take place later this month. The Chiefs have several holes to plug on their roster after a 2025 season that saw them miss the playoffs altogether on the heels of three straight trips to the Super Bowl.

One area where the Chiefs could use some help is in the wide receiver room, and recently, Peter Schrager of ESPN projected that Kansas City will take Arizona State wideout Jordyn Tyson with their number nine overall pick.

I still think finding offensive playmakers is a major priority, though, especially with Mahomes coming off the ACL injury. Tyson pops more than any other receiver in this draft class; he just needs to stay healthy,” noted Schrager on ESPN.com.

Indeed, Tyson profiles as one of the top wide receivers of this draft class, having established himself as a star with the Sun Devils this past season and skyrocketing up draft boards as a result. His explosiveness and downfield catch radius would make him a premium target for Mahomes, especially as Travis Kelce’s productivity continues to dwindle.

Meanwhile, Schrager also projected the Chiefs to take Tennessee cornerback Colton Hood with their number 29 pick in the first round, pointing out that “Kansas City lost three key defensive backs in free agency (Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams), so there is a big need.”

Another big question for the Chiefs is whether or not Mahomes will be ready to go for the start of the season after tearing his ACL at the end of last year, and the team has already brought in Justin Fields as a contingency plan in that department.

In any case, the NFL Draft is slated to get underway on April 23.
