Chargers GM Joe Horitz leaves no doubt about Quentin Johnston trade

If you thought that the Los Angeles Chargers were considering trading 4th year wide receiver Quentin Johnston, then you’d better squash all those what-if mock trades. Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz left no doubt when asked if he had considered a trade.

“I have made zero calls about Quentin, and I’ve had zero calls regarding Quentin.”

The Chargers’ offense is led by Justin Herbert, and he needs all the help he can get. Trading Johnston does not make any sense for the Bolts as they are in a win-now mindset.

Hortix and the Chargers staff are figuring out if they want to pick up Johnston’s fifth-year option. As he enters Year 4 in the NFL, Johnston has improved each year, but there are still some glaring issues with his game. He lacks consistency and the ability to get open when the moment arises. Johnston’s hands are improving, no doubt, and he is seeing the success in the endzone with 16 touchdowns the last two seasons. That puts him in company with some of the best receivers in the game.

He’s only racked up 1,877 yards in his career, but he has surpassed 700 yards in each of the last two seasons, with eight touchdowns in both seasons as well. He’s become a playmaker for the Bolts’ offense with multiple 60+ yard scores and multiple touchdown games. QJ scored three touchdowns in the first two games of last season to give him a huge momentum boost. While Johnston never really ran away with the momentum, he continued to improve, and Herbert loves to throw him the ball. Ladd McConkey is the top receiver on the roster, and rightfully so, but QJ is not a bad WR2 or WR3 to have, depending on what happens with Keenan Allen.

Here are three bold predictions for the Chargers for the 2026 NFL Draft.
