The Dallas Cowboys are just over two weeks away from the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, which will take place in Pittsburgh. The Cowboys have several needs to fill, most of them on the defensive side of the ball, where they were among the worst units in the NFL in several statistical departments this past year.
One player who exceeded for Dallas this past year was quarterback Dak Prescott, who played at a near-MVP level for much of the season, but that doesn’t mean the Cowboys aren’t looking to add more depth in that department. Recently, an ESPN mock draft projected the Cowboys to take a swing on former Miami quarterback Carson Beck with their pick in the fifth round of the draft.
“When kept clean, Beck plays well within himself. He throws with anticipation and decisiveness, and he can flash high-caliber precision to pull receivers away from coverage when working between the numbers,” noted Ben Solak on ESPN.com. However, he also conceded that “… it’s tough to find a cardinal trait for Beck to hang his hat on as a starting NFL quarterback.”
The Cowboys currently have both Sam Howell and Joe Milton III on their roster, meaning that if they do take Beck, he will likely be a third quarterback as opposed to second string. However, he has plenty of big game experience during his time at both Georgia and Miami, including in last year’s national championship game, and there is a reason he was once thought of as a potential first-round pick.
Still, fans hoping to see him on an NFL field in a non-preseason setting anytime soon probably shouldn’t hold their breath.
The NFL Draft is slated to get underway on April 23.
