The Arizona Cardinals had Jacoby Brissett to fill in after releasing Kyler Murray, but a contract holdout has the team looking for another option. Enter Carson Beck, who the Cardinals drafted 65th overall to add to their quarterback room along with Gardner Minshew II. Brissett still projects to be the starter if the contract negotiations work themselves out, but if not, Beck might get a chance to play in his first professional season.

The Ty Simpson pick by the Los Angeles Rams threw the quarterback conversation at the draft for a loop. There were even talks that the Cardinals might target Beck at 34 to make sure they didn’t miss out on someone at that position, which they are likely glad they didn’t pull the trigger on now. Instead, the Cardinals waited until 65 to get their guy.
Beck offers an interesting project for the Cardinals. Allegedly, Simpson was their target as someone who had a bit of a higher ceiling than the other remaining quarterbacks. However, with Brissett on his holdout, Beck is someone who might be ready sooner than Simpson would have.
It’s going to take some great play from the Miami quarterback to make all his critics believe that he is worthy of getting NFL reps. The 2026 quarterback class has a ton of question marks, and it isn’t too surprising that they are all falling. With the 2027 class looking like it could be much better, Arizona might end up dipping back into that market next season to get its gunslinger of the future.
