By The Numbers: The Pedro Acosta Stat That Matters More Than Any Of His Faults

That KTM talisman Pedro Acosta has now gone 38 weekends in the premier class without a win – sprint or GP – has to be a disappointment relative to the expectations. In fact, it’s obvious nobody will be more disappointed than Acosta himself.

But while the 21-year-old is clearly not quite the complete MotoGP rider yet, failing to win on an RC16 nobody else is winning on either is hardly an indictment. And as far as stats go, 38 winless rounds is far less remarkable than another Acosta stat with the number 38 in it.

38-0. Every time Acosta has gone up against a teammate in qualifying in MotoGP, the teammate has been vanquished. If you’re watching the start of a race and you only know which team Acosta rides for, you don’t need his number nor helmet design to find him – look for the two bikes in his team’s livery, and know that he’s on the one that’s lining up ahead.
