Buriram MotoGP Post-Race Subscriber Notes: Is The Aprilia Era Upon Us?

The streak is over. After 88 consecutive races, MotoGP has a podium without a single Ducati. Since Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), Alex Rins (Suzuki), and Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia) took the podium at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in 2021, there has always been at least one Ducati on the podium. And usually more.

At the Thai GP in Buriram, there were two Aprilias and a KTM on the podium. The first Ducati was Fabio Di Giannantonio, in sixth, the first time no Ducati had finished in the top five since the European GP (Valencia 1) in 2020. It is truly the end of a historic streak.

With Marco Bezzecchi taking an utterly convincing win and four Aprilias in the top five – KTM’s Pedro Acosta the only spoilsport in second – is the start of a new era? Is Ducati’s long reign at the top of MotoGP over?
