The Cleveland Browns are hoping that newly minted head coach Todd Monken will be able to lead the team back into postseason contention at some point relatively soon after the organization parted ways with Kevin Stefanski after last season. Monken was noticeably absent at the recent annual NFL coaches’ photo, reportedly because he was out getting a haircut for specifically that reason, which didn’t exactly set a great standard for his clock management.
Now, Monken has made a blunt NSFW admission on his reaction to missing out on the event.
“I don’t give a s***,” said Monken, per Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan on X, formerly Twitter.
It certainly wasn’t a dealbreaker for Browns fans who are likely to extend their new head coach a long leash, considering the current state of the roster and franchise as a whole. Still, it would have been nice for Monken to be in attendance for one of the NFL’s most meme-worthy offseason events.
Meanwhile, Monken has plenty of questions to answer regarding his team heading into next season, none bigger than at the quarterback position. Rookie Shedeur Sanders took over as the starter at quarterback down the stretch of last season with mixed results, but there is one school of thought that the team might be motivated to give veteran Deshaun Watson every opportunity to earn the starting job this year, considering the vast amount of cash the Browns have tied to him on his league-worst contract.
While the defense boasts arguably the league’s best player in Myles Garrett, there is also still work to be done on that side of the ball.
As long as Monken shows up in draft scouting meetings and other team events, Browns fans will probably be happy.
