The Denver Broncos ownership group has expanded its presence in Colorado sports by purchasing a minority stake in the Colorado Rockies, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.
Schefter reported Friday that Carrie and Greg Penner, through Penner Sports Group, have acquired a significant minority investment in the Rockies, further strengthening their footprint in the Denver sports landscape.
“Broncos owners Carrie and Greg Penner have expanded their commitment to, and in, the Denver sports community through a significant minority investment in the Colorado Rockies.
Penner Sports Group — the family entity that holds their ownership interest in the Broncos — now becomes the largest minority partner of the Rockies. Majority ownership of the Rockies and all team operations remain with Dick Monfort and the Monfort family while Carrie and Greg Penner continue to be focused on the Broncos.”
The move reflects a broader effort by the Penner family to deepen its ties within the local sports market while maintaining its primary focus on the Broncos.

Broncos ownership expands reach with Rockies investment
Denver is coming off a strong 2025 NFL season, finishing with a 14-3 record and securing the top seed in the AFC before falling 10-7 to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. The organization’s success has coincided with increased visibility and influence across the region.
Meanwhile, the Rockies have shown early signs of improvement during the 2026 MLB season. Colorado holds a 6-7 record, a notable contrast to last year when the team did not reach six wins until its 31st game, beginning the season 6-25.
The Rockies are currently in a series against the San Diego Padres after dropping the opener 7-3 on Thursday. The teams are scheduled to meet again Friday at 6:40 p.m. PT on MLB.TV.
