The Denver Broncos made their first selection of the 2026 NFL Draft Friday night by choosing defensive lineman Tyler Onyedim with the 66th overall pick after trading down from No. 62 in a deal with the Buffalo Bills that also netted a 2026 sixth-round selection (No. 182).
Denver entered Day 2 without prior picks after moving their first-rounder in a trade for Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins and later trading down again, eventually landing on a pick that had changed hands multiple times, including via the Tennessee Titans.
Onyedim, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 295 pounds, brings five years of collegiate experience split between the Iowa State Cyclones and Texas A&M Aggies. Throughout his career, he appeared in 53 games, recording 138 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one interception, one pass defended, and one forced fumble.
The 2025 season at Texas A&M was Onyedim at his best, as he racked up 48 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks, along with a forced fumble. He earned Pro Football Focus grades of 71.9 overall, including 73.2 in run defense.
During his time at Iowa State, Onyedim played in 40 games, compiling 90 tackles (37 solo), 12 tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception, one fumble recovery, and one pass deflection. He earned All-Big 12 honorable mention recognition in 2023.
Onyedim is expected to compete for rotational snaps on a Broncos defensive front that includes Zach Allen and DJ Jones, while potentially helping offset the departure of John Franklin-Myers in free agency.
