The Buffalo Bills’ 2026 NFL Draft plans are still a mystery to most. The team could go in several directions, with edge, wide receiver, defensive tackle, quarterback, and safety, all areas of need. In the latest mock draft from NFL insider Peter Schrager, Buffalo makes an interesting pick, going with Ohio State DT Kayden McDonald.
“This might be the highest you’ll see McDonald going in a mock draft at the moment, but I’m hearing significant first-round buzz on him,” Schrager writes. “A massive run defender, McDonald would be a good fit in Buffalo, where the Bills ranked 30th against the run last season (5.1 yards allowed per carry).”
The 6-foot-2, 326-pound former Buckeye may be the most productive DT in the 2026 NFL Draft, but he is also somehwat one dimensional. And while the Bills definitely need a run-stuffing nose tackle as they switch to a 3-4 defense next season, taking a two-down player at 26 is a hard pill to swallow.
As the 2026 NFL Draft approaches, there is one scenario that would make a ton of sense if the Bills do covert McDonald.
The New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals pick first and second in the second round, respectively, and both are candidates to trade back into Round 1 to take Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson somewhere in the 20s or 30s. The Bills are without a second-round pick thanks to the D.J. Moore trade, so moving back and picking up more draft capital makes a lot of sense. In that case, it’s a lot easier to justify a run-stuffer in Round 2 than it is in Round 1. So, if the Bills really do want McDonald in the draft, taking him at 33 or 34 would make a ton of sense.
