Bengals news: Jason Kelce’s review of Dexter Lawrence’s game will fire up Cincy fans

It seems like mock drafts left the Cincinnati Bengals with a bad feeling about the draft. So they traded for Dexter Lawrence and paid him. And Jason Kelce’s review of Lawrence’s game will fire up Bengals fans.

Kelce weighed in on Lawrence, according to a post on X by New Heights.

“I’ll speak on Dexter because I had to block him,” Kelce said. “I feel very lucky that I got to play him young in his career. Before he had figured out all my tricks that I tried to use against him. Because that was the only way I was surviving.”

Bengals DT Dexter Lawrence showed out for the Giants

Kelce said Lawrence displayed incredible ability for the Giants.

“He was virtually, like, unblockable,” Kelce said. “You would watch the tape. Destroying centers. He is a massive human being.

“This is a big add for the Bengals. I hope they utilize him in a way that really accentuates when he’s had the most success in his career.”

Lawrence is a seven-year NFL veteran who is 28 years old. He authored three straight Pro Bowl seasons from 2022-24. In those years, he racked up 21 sacks. That’s a tough number for a defensive tackle.

However, this is a gamble for the Bengals. That’s because Lawrence had only one-half of a sack last season. He also had half as many quarterback hits (8) as he totaled in 2024. And he played in all 17 games in 2025 as opposed to 12 games in 2024.

Has he reached the trailing off period of his career? Or did last year’s lack of production stem from the Giants’ overall poor defense?

Pro Football Focus says it’s the latter. Lawrence ranked No. 9 among 134 defensive interior players in 2025. However, his run defense grade was only No. 56.

There’s strong support for his talent, according to MMQB via Sports Illustrated.

“I was talking to a GM last night, and he said to me that he thinks Dexter Lawrence is more talented than anybody in this year’s draft,” Albert Breer said. “And he would take him even at his age with his mileage over any defensive player in this year’s draft.”
