Expectations are high for the Chicago Bears after the franchise won the NFC North title for the first time since 2018. While the fanbase and talking heads are seemingly all in on the organization running away with the division next season, former tight end turned announcer Greg Olsen pumps the brakes on the Super Bowl talks.
Olsen, who is 41 years old, claims that success is not guaranteed because the Bears play in the NFC North division, according to DJ Siddiqi of R.org. The 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame nominee believes the division is too crowded and that there are essentially no easy games on the schedule for Chicago, or any team in the NFC North, for that matter.
“I think one of the biggest issues for [the Bears] is not even going to be their own fault, I think just competing in the NFC North in general,” said Olsen. “When you start talking about playoff teams and home playoff games and winning the division and ultimately winning the Super Bowl, a lot of those conversations also are yes, how good is your team and how prepared are you?
“But who are the teams around you? Six games on your calendar, six games on your schedule a year, are going to be your teams in your division… Where are the easy games? You got two against Green Bay, you got two against Detroit, and you got two against Minnesota.”
The Bears went 3-3 against their divisional rivals in the 2025-26 campaign, going 1-1 against each opponent. Sure, the NFC North is a stacked division, but Chicago seemingly held its own in those contests last season.
With another year of building the roster, Caleb Williams taking another step in development, and Ben Johnson continuing to learn as a head coach, the Bears are in a position to prove Greg Olsen wrong next season. Only time will tell.
