Caleb Williams came a long way in his second season with the Chicago Bears. He led the team to first place in the NFC North and a victory in the Wild Card playoff game. He earned a reputation for his ability to come through in the late stages of the fourth quarter in many of his team’s victories and the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft appears well on his way to becoming one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL.

Despite his late-game heroics in Bears victories over the Washington Commanders, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers and two victories over the Green Bay Packers — including one in the playoffs — Williams is not always getting respect from other professional football players. Perhaps he can be called the Rodney Dangerfield of the NFL.
Bengals All-Pro receiver Ja’Marr Chase was a guest on Pat McAfee’s ESPN television program, and he referred to Williams as “Caleb Andrews.” The Bears quarterback got word of Chase’s disrespect, and he decided to put up a reminder on his Instagram account that recounted Chicago’s comeback victory over Cincinnati.
Williams took multiple dramatic steps in his second year with the Bears. He advanced in his play while working with head coach Ben Johnson and demonstrating that he played his best football when the game was on the line.
Williams completed 330 of 568 passes for 3,942 yards with 27 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He also carried the ball 77 times 388 yards with 3 rushing TDs. The quarterback’s ability to escape pressure and deliver big plays has been his best asset while playing for the Bears.
Williams had been a solid runner during his college career at USC, but he has exceeded expectations in that area as a professional.
