Ballislife SeaWorld All-American Game: Bella Flemings’ CLUTCH Shooting Wins 3-Point Contest!

SAN DIEGO – High school All-American games are often relatively mellow events in terms of the action, sort of like an NBA All-Star Game. The surrounding 3-point and dunk contests even more so. With that being said, a legitimate statement was made by Duke commit Bella Flemings of San Antonio, Texas, at the Ballislife 3-point contest on Friday.

After dominating the girls competition to move on to the co-ed championship against boys champion Colben Landrew, Flemings stunned the UConn commit by making the final three shots on the last rack to take home the trophy. She secured the victory on the last shot, earning the loudest cheer of the afternoon from the SeaWorld San Diego crowd.

“It felt great,” Flemings said. “As soon as I got to the last rack, they were saying it was two to tie it and three to win. As soon as that last ball left my hand, it felt good. I got more than him the first round, so I knew I could do it, and it was just like the pressure, but I didn’t let it get to me.”

Flemings’ performance was especially impressive when you consider that it was outdoors with a moderate breeze, but the sharpshooter adjusted quickly and didn’t miss a beat.

“It was weird (shooting outside),” Flemings said. “It took me a lot of time to warm up when I was shooting earlier, but as soon as I got it, my shot felt great.”

Boys 3-Point Contest

Heading into Friday’s contest, the favorite was Mater Dei (CA) sniper Luke Barnett after going 15-for-15 in the tiebreaker of Thursday’s qualifying round. After being introduced to the crowd with an achievement highlight, he started off making 3 of his first 4 shots, but eventually tapered off and finished tied for second place with nine total points.

Oregon commit Tajh Ariza (Branson, MO) was the first shooter and started off on a good note, making 4 of his first 8 attempts. However, he finished by tallying just five points on his final 12 attempts, finishing with nine total and in a three-way tie for second place with Barnett and Abdul Toure. Santa Margarita’s Kaiden Bailey tallied 8 points on 20 attempts to finish in fifth place in the tightly contested competition.

Colben Landrew, of course, was a step ahead of the field. The Marietta, GA product finished with a total of 12 points on 20 attempts to advance to the co-ed final and put up 11 in the final round against Flemings, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the sharpest shooter of the afternoon.

Girls 3-Point Contest

With a 10-mile-per-hour breeze blowing through the Nautilus Amphitheater, DME Academy (FL) star Chikae Desdunes started off the girls’ 3-point contest. It took the first rack for Desdunes to get acquainted with the atmosphere, but she did heat up on the second and third racks to finish with 7 makes on 20 attempts.

Michigan State commit Lilly Williams (Howell, MI) and Cincinnati commit Jaidyn Gunter (Dallas, TX) had a similar plight during their turns, while Desdunes’ DME teammate GiGi Battle shot a bit better during her attempt.

However, just like the championship round, Bella Flemings stole the show. Her initial total of 13 was the highest registered by a boy or girl for the entirety of the competition, and she backed that number up with the clutch finish on her final shot against Landrew.

Those who have been following Flemings’ career certainly aren’t surprised by her standout performance, but she couldn’t have had a better introduction to the casual audience that stopped by to watch the show at SeaWorld as they perused through the park.
