ATP and SURJ Sports Investment Announce Landmark ATP Masters 1000 Tournament in Saudi Arabia

ATP and SURJ Sports Investment, a Public Investment Fund (PIF) company, have announced the creation of a brand-new ATP Masters 1000 tournament to be hosted in Saudi Arabia — marking a historic expansion of one of tennis’s most prestigious event categories.

For the first time ever, the ATP Masters 1000 series will expand to include a tenth tournament. Saudi Arabia joins the elite lineup of host cities that includes Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid, Rome, Toronto/Montreal, Cincinnati, Shanghai, and Paris. The inaugural Saudi event is expected to debut as early as 2028.

This milestone represents a new era for global tennis and signals a major step forward in Saudi Arabia’s ongoing sports transformation. The event will bring the world’s top players to the Kingdom, offering fans a world-class tennis experience and further cementing the nation’s growing reputation as a global hub for sports and entertainment.

The launch underscores PIF’s long-term commitment to advancing international tennis and fostering innovation across the sport. It also builds upon PIF’s existing strategic partnership with the ATP, which includes title sponsorship of the PIF ATP Rankings (and WTA Rankings), collaboration on key ATP Tour events, and the recent introduction of ATP Tennis IQ Powered by PIF, a next-generation analytics platform. Under the new agreement, the Saudi Masters 1000 tournament will also join ATP and the other Masters events as a shareholder in ATP Media, the Tour’s broadcast and media arm.

Beyond professional tennis, the initiative aims to accelerate grassroots development across Saudi Arabia. A nationwide program, developed in collaboration with the Saudi Tennis Federation, will promote inclusivity, accessibility, and player development—creating pathways for aspiring athletes and helping to grow both the men’s and women’s games. This effort aligns with PIF’s broader mission to expand sports participation and drive social and economic impact through sport.
