Alcaraz, Djokovic, Sabalenka and Pegula Lead Blockbuster Day 6 at the 2025 US Open
Friday’s Previews and Results from the 2025 US Open
Friday’s action at the 2025 US Open will feature former champion Carlos Alcaraz in action during the day session, taking on No. 32 seed Luciano Darderi in Ashe Stadium.
Never playing in each other on Tour, Alcaraz has made seven straight finals of Tour, and has captured six titles.
Darderi, who has won three titles this year, is playing the best tennis of his career. Alcaraz is currently ranked No. 2 in the world and No. 1 in the live rankings. He will be ranked No. 1 in the world if he wins the US Open.
Other matches on deck today will feature No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz, No. 6 seed Ben Shelton, No. 7 seed Novak Djokovic and No. 17 seed Frances Tiafoe.
On Thursday, top seed Jannik Sinner, No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev, No. 10 seed Lorenzo Musetti, and No. 15 seed Andrey Rublev all reached the third round.
No. 5 seed Jack Draper had to withdraw from the event due to a left arm injury, pushing Zizou Bergs from Belgium into the third round.
No. 9 seed Karen Khachanov, No. 19 seed Francisco Cerundolo, No. 26 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, and No. 31 seed Gabriel Diallo were all sent packing in the round of 64.
On Saturday, Sinner and Zverev will return to action and will look to reach the round of 16. Sinner will take on No. 27 seed Denis Shapovalov, and Zverev will go up against No. 25 Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Sabalenka, Pegula and Rybakina Featured on Friday
Top ranked Aryna Sabalenka will return to Armstrong Stadium today in search of a fourth round appearance. The defending champion is set to take on No. 31 seed Leylah Fernandez from Canada.
Fernandez won the 500 level event in Washington, D.C. earlier this Summer and defeated Sabalenka on her way to the final in New York in 2021 in three sets.
Other matches on the day will include No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula, No. 5 seed Mirra Andreeva, No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini, No. 9 Elena Rybakina, and No. 10 seed Emma Navarro.
Rybakina will face former US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the potential match of the day.
On Thursday, No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff, No. 8 seed Amanda Anisimova, No. 13 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, and No. 23 Naomi Osaka all advanced to the third round.
Saturday’s schedule in New York will see Swiatek take on No. 29 seed Anna Kalinskaya, Gauff will face Magdalena Frech, and Osaka will go up against No. 15 seed Daria Kasatkina from Australia.
Osaka is a four-time Major winner and has won the US Open on two occasions.
