The 2026 NFL Draft is right around the corner, and the New York Jets own two first-round picks this year. With all eyes on the No. 2 overall selection, a new betting favorite emerges for New York, which may hint at the club’s plans for the draft.
David Bailey, an edge rusher coming out of Texas Tech, is now the betting favorite to be the No. 2 pick overall by the Jets, according to Jaime Eisner of The Draft Network. Bailey is just ahead of Ohio State’s Arvell Reese in the betting odds.
“David Bailey is the new betting favorite to be the No. 2 overall pick for the New York Jets,” reported Eisner.
“David Bailey (-140)
Arvell Reese (+100)”
Bailey, who is 22 years old, emerged as a breakout edge rusher for the Texas Tech Red Raiders last season. He ended the 2025-26 campaign with 52 combined tackles (32 solo), 14.5 sacks (led the nation), three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. David Bailey also led the Big 12 with 19.5 tackles for a loss.
The 2025 All-American and Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year turned heads at the NFL Combine during his preparation for the upcoming draft. He recorded the fastest 40-yard dash for edge rushers with a time of 4.50. Amongst edge rushers, Bailey was also third in the broad jump (10’9″), seventh in 10-yard split (1.62), and tied for 10th in vertical jump (35″).
David Bailey has the potential to be a difference-maker at the professional level. The Jets’ defense lacked firepower last season under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn. Adding someone like Bailey to the defensive line could be a huge boost for the club moving forward.
The first round of the NFL Draft is scheduled to begin on April 23. The Jets own the No. 2 and the No. 16 overall picks. New York has nine total selections through seven rounds.
