Colts’ Jonathan Taylor expected to play vs. Jaguars despite trade rumors

Jonathan Taylor is expected to suit up for the Indianapolis Colts against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday despite growing trade speculation surrounding the star running back.

ESPN Colts reporter Stephen Holder confirmed that Taylor is playing, pushing back on questions about whether Indianapolis might hold him out to protect his trade value. Holder also indicated that no deal is imminent and believes the Colts want to show they are still willing to keep Taylor.

“As of now, Jonathan Taylor IS playing tomorrow. No deal is imminent, and I imagine they want to send the message that they are willing to keep him (which I do believe is true),” the tweet read.

The update comes after reports that Indianapolis is open to trading the three-time Pro Bowler. Several teams have contacted the Colts, with the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks among those linked to the situation.

Indianapolis has reportedly received at least one offer involving a second-round draft pick and additional compensation. The Colts could seek a significant package for Taylor, who remains one of the league’s leading running backs.

However, the organization has not indicated that a trade is inevitable. Owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon recently held an in-depth conversation with Taylor about his future, and the franchise would prefer to keep him as part of its rebuild.

Taylor has also made his position clear. He said Thursday that he has not requested a trade and remains proud to represent Indianapolis, although he acknowledged that the NFL’s business side could eventually take him elsewhere.

The 27-year-old enters Sunday’s matchup with 587 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns, tied for the league lead. He is under contract through the 2028 season after signing an extension with Indianapolis.
