Why Bruce Feldman thinks Giants fans should be ‘over the moon’ about 2026 NFL Draft coup

The New York Giants exited the 2026 NFL Draft with seven new players. One of them already has pundits around the NFL world gushing.

With their fifth overall pick, the Giants landed linebacker Arvell Reese. His addition should make New York fans ecstatic, argues Bruce Feldman of The Athletic.

“Arvell Reese falling to the Giants at No. 5 was very fortunate for new coach John Harbaugh,” Feldman wrote. “If I were a Giants fan, I’d be over the moon about that development. Reese is a special talent who could be a Pro Bowler as an off-ball linebacker or an edge rusher. He goes to a team that should terrorize opposing QBs on third downs with Brian Burns, last year’s first-rounder Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux, a 2022 first-rounder. That is a lot of juice.”

Despite already having pass rushers such as Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux, the Giants couldn’t resist the value Reese provided at No. 5. New York will need to figure out exactly where he’s playing on the field. But they’re fully confident their defense just received another jolt.

Over his three years at Ohio State, Reese put up 112 tackles, 13.5 for a loss and seven sacks. He won a national championship with the Buckeyes in 2024 before being named a Consensus All-American and the Big Ten Linebacker of the Year in 2025.

The Giants finished their 2025 season ranked 28th in total defense, allowing 359.5 yards per game. Now, new head coach John Harbaugh has a new tool to work with. If he lives up to his hype, New York has a new building block on their defense.
