The Buffalo Bills have been on the hunt for more receiver talent for years ever since Stefon Diggs was traded away, and now they are taking another chance on a big talent to help out Josh Allen and company.
Wide receiver Jermaine Burton, a former third-round pick who flamed out during this time with the Cincinnati Bengals, is going to take part in the Bills’ rookie minicamp in an attempt to get back into the league, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Burton spent his college days at Alabama and Georgia, but never was able to reach the level of production that his talent suggested he could. He was picked in the third round based on his physical tools and talent, and he showcased that during his time with the Bengals.
Burton played in 14 games in Cincinnati during the 2024 season, catching just four balls for 107 yards. While the consistency wasn’t there, the big-play ability was, and that’s exactly what the Bills need in a receiver after lacking exactly that skillset last season.
Burton does come with some character concerns. He was flagged for exactly that both during his time at Georgia and his time at Alabama leading into the draft, which is part of why he fell into the third round. His time with the Bengals came to an end in large part because of that, with both team attendance issues and an assault charge in early 2025 leading to the split.
The Bills, while not signing Burton to a contract just yet, are giving him a second chance and a chance to earn his spot this offseason. Buffalo spent much of last season relying on the likes of Keon Coleman and Brandin Cooks at wide receiver, so it makes sense that it would be looking to add more talent at that spot even after the addition of DJ Moore.
