Eagles rumors: Insider points to offensive focus early in draft, with a trade up idea

The Philadelphia Eagles are just one day away from kicking off the 2026 NFL Draft, where they will have the number 23 pick in the first round. The Eagles have several gaps to fill, most of them on offense, which was a very disappointing unit for the team amid their rough 2025-26 season.

Recently, Zach Berman of The Athletic broke down Eagles general manager Howie Roseman’s state of mind leading into the draft.

“… Howie Roseman has been candid about the Eagles’ desire to add more young, cost-controlled players on offense. They’ve been so defense-heavy in the early rounds in recent years, and Roseman knows he must reverse that trend,” he reported.

One mock draft from The Athletic has the Eagles trading up to number 20 with the Dallas Cowboys in order to select offensive lineman Monroe Freeling out of Georgia.

“He’s 6-foot-7, 315 pounds with 34 3/4-inch arms and a 40-yard dash that’s in the 95th percentile for his position and a vertical jump that’s in the 93rd percentile. That’s almost Lane Johnson-ish, which is a good place to start for his potential replacement. The movement skills at that size will be especially appealing,” the publication noted.

Indeed, the Eagles will need a replacement for former Pro Bowler Lane Johnson over the long haul, and adding a talented prospect in the first round in Freeling would certainly help them out in that department, while giving Freeling an opportunity to learn from one of the best.

The Eagles also have some questions at wide receiver, particularly as trade rumors continue to swirl around AJ Brown amid his uncertain future with the franchise.

In any case, the draft will officially get underway on Thursday evening from Pittsburgh.
