The 2026 NFL Draft kicks off in just one day on April 23rd from Pittsburgh. Several teams have multiple first-round picks, which could lead to some fireworks on draft night. One recent mock draft included an incredibly wild trade that would shake up the entire first round.
ESPN’s Peter Schrager released his final mock draft of the offseason on Wednesday. He cooked up a wild mock draft trade which has the Chiefs and Cowboys swapping all of their first-round picks.
“OK, our first trade! I could see this happening. After allowing 377 yards per game and letting opponents convert on third down 47.3% of the time — ranking among the worst in the NFL in both — Dallas has to get one of the top defensive prospects,” Schrager wrote. “It’s a necessity. But there’s no guarantee any of them — Downs, Delane, Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. et al — will still be there at No. 12. This is a chance to guarantee getting one of them and still have another first-round pick. Delane’s coverage ability should help stop some of the big plays that doomed the Cowboys in 2025.”
In this scenario, the Cowboys land the ninth and 29th overall picks from the Chiefs in exchange for the 12th and 20th overall picks.
Schrager has the Cowboys grabbing cornerback Mansoor Delane at nine, followed by edge rusher Malachi Lawrence at 29. Meanwhile, the Chiefs scoop up edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. at 12 and receiver Omar Cooper Jr. at 20.
This trade could be surprising for Chiefs fans, especially if Delane is still on the board at ninth overall. Kansas City is expected to add a cornerback early in the draft, so passing on Delane would be puzzling.
Regardless, the concept of Kansas City and Dallas swapping picks is an interesting scenario that seems possible.
