NFL agrees to the Steelers’ owner’s draft request that will piss off Ravens fans

Just two days before the 2026 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy has openly shared his vision for the team’s quarterback depth.

The organization is still awaiting a final decision from Aaron Rodgers regarding his retirement, but McCarthy has made it clear that he wants to expand the current quarterback lineup, which currently includes only Mason Rudolph and Will Howard.

As Pittsburgh prepares to host the league’s flagship offseason event, the home-field advantage is already being felt in the front office.

According to a report from Pro Football Talk, Steelers owner Art Rooney II successfully convinced the NFL to modify the seating chart for the draft theater.

Rooney mentioned during an interview on WDVE that the original layout had Baltimore Ravens fans placed in front of Steelers fans in one section.

Unwilling to allow a division rival to take precedence in the Steel City, Rooney requested a swap, and the league complied.

He explained that hosting the draft gives the team a louder voice in the logistics and used that influence to ensure the event celebrates Western Pennsylvania’s rich football history, one in which local fans aren’t stuck behind Baltimore supporters.

On the personnel side, the Steelers’ management seems particularly interested in a potential new target for whoever ends up at quarterback.

General Manager Omar Khan and McCarthy both praised USC wide receiver Makai Lemon following his pre-draft visit, with Khan calling the experience “excellent” and McCarthy describing the prospect as “awesome.”

The Steelers have pressing needs at the interior offensive line and safety positions, and their significant draft capital, which includes 12 total picks, gives them the flexibility to move up from the No. 21 spot if they choose to strengthen a receiving group currently led by DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr.
