NFL rumors: 49ers insider gives blunt response to fan’s Commanders tampering allegations over Brandon Aiyuk

It seems like the San Francisco 49ers have been all over the place with Brandon Aiyuk. And they still might trade him. But a 49ers insider gave a blunt response to a fan’s allegation of Commanders’ tampering regarding Aiyuk.

The response didn’t dismiss the notion, according to The Athletic.

“The fan asked, ‘Has old colleague Adam Peters become a thorn in John Lynch’s side?’ To which Matt Barrows replied, ‘Is it tampering if one college teammate (Jayden Daniels) checks in on the condition of another (Aiyuk)? I dunno. It might be hard to prove.’ ”

It’s not only hard to prove, but is it a genuine response to say, “I dunno” to whether old college teammates talking is an act of tampering?

Where will WR Brandon Aiyuk play in 2026?

The Commanders are certainly hungry for wide receiver help. They’re fairly solid at WR1 with Terry McLaurin. After that? Nothing is proven or even exciting.

If the Commanders walk into the 2026 season with Luke McCaffrey as WR2 and Treylon Burks as WR3, they’re likely going to get the poor record they deserve for failing at a key position.

And the bench could be weak, too, with Dyami Brown, Van Jefferson, and Jaylin Lane. To have a quarterback like Jayden Daniels and give him a receiver room doesn’t seem to be in the best interest of winning.

However, Aiyuk could change the narrative. If fully healthy, he’s an excellent WR2. And if McLaurin drops off some because of age, Aiyuk could threaten his WR1 status.

But first, the Commanders have to find a way to pry Aiyuk from the 49ers.

And then they have to face the reality that Aiyuk may never be the receiver he once was. The Commanders’ best path might be to draft a first-round wide receiver and just hope Aiyuk adds to the mix if he’s healthy. That way, anything Aiyuk would do could be considered a bonus instead of something the team is depending on.
