Now armed with two top-10 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, the New York Giants have a lot of directions to potentially head on Thursday. However, one player they have remained connected to throughout is Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.
With two chances to potentially take Love in the first round, ESPN’s Jordan Raanan does not see the Giants passing up on the generational running back at No. 5. Raanan fully expects Joe Schoen and John Harbaugh to make a quick decision with their first pick of the night if the Notre Dame product is still on the board when they are on the clock.
“Been saying it for months,” Raanan tweeted. “If Jeremiyah Love is there at 5, can’t see John Harbaugh and the Giants passing on the draft’s top skill player and playmaker.”
Running back is not the Giants’ biggest need, but Love would undeniably improve the offensive outlook on paper. While New York already has Cam Skattebo leading the backfield, the 24-year-old bruiser is coming off a gruesome season-ending leg injury, and pairing him with Love would form one of the best young tandems in the league.
Love ended his collegiate career with the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back, after racking up 1,372 rushing yards and 21 total touchdowns in 2025. The 20-year-old topped 100 yards in six of Notre Dame’s 12 games, including a career-high 228-yard masterclass against rival USC in the middle of the year.
Love is viewed by many as the best overall prospect in the class. However, analysts cannot reach consensus on his landing spot due to the modern NFL’s view of running backs, and with many teams picking in the top 10 likely to target other positional needs.
