The Indianapolis Colts are currently gearing up for the NFL Draft, which is slated to get underway on Thursday evening in Pittsburgh. The Colts have already had a busy offseason, signing quarterback Daniel Jones to a 2-year extension worth nearly $90 million in March.
It was a big gamble for the Colts, considering that Jones will be coming off a devastating torn Achilles injury he suffered, which ended his strong first season in Indianapolis prematurely.
However, now, the team has gotten some positive news about Jones’ recovery process as the offseason continues.
“Colts HC Shane Steichen says QB Daniel Jones is back to throwing and is performing dropbacks as well, another step forward in his comeback from a torn Achilles,” reported Stephen Holder of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.
Holder also reported on how the Colts have looked for other high-profile Achilles injury recoveries around the sports world to help them navigate Jones’ situation.
Steichen says he consulted with Celtics’ team president Brad Stevens for tips gained during Jayson Tatum’s recovery in Boston. Same injury, same surgeon for Jones,” he reported.
Tatum recently pulled off one of the quickest Achilles injury returns in recent sports history by returning to the Boston Celtics just ten months after suffering the injury in last year’s playoffs, and thus far, the star has looked mostly like the normal version of himself, with his explosion and dexterity both improving significantly since his return to play.
The Colts will hope for a similar level of success for Jones, who was viewed by some as a fringe MVP candidate for Indianapolis for the first half of last year before the injury cut his season short, ultimately taking the Colts’ playoff chances down with him.
