The 2026 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, and all eyes are on the New York Jets, as the organization owns two picks in the first round and two picks in the second round. While buzz has been growing that former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback could be one of those selections for New York, the latest rumors possibly reveal when the front office could make that pick.
According to the Draft Predictor by Seth Walder of ESPN, the Jets have a 43% chance of picking Simpson with the No. 33 pick overall, per Rich Cimini of ESPN. Cimini also adds that the New York brass have seemingly liked what they’ve seen from Simpson throughout the draft process.
“There’s a 43% chance QB Ty Simpson will be available for the #Jets at 33, per Draft Predictor (Seth Walder),” reported Cimini. “Would they pull the trigger if he’s still there? Risky, considering lack of experience, but I know they were impressed by his football character/smarts in recent private meeting + workout.”
Simpson’s projection has been all over the place leading up to the NFL Draft. The common belief is that the 23-year-old quarterback could be the second quarterback taken off the board behind Fernando Mendoza. But when that will be is a complete guess. If the Jets can address areas of need with their two first-round picks, then select Simpson with the first pick of the second round, the club could walk away big winners over the weekend.
Ty Simpson played all four years of his collegiate career at Alabama, but did not become the starter until his redshirt junior year last season. He was one of the most active quarterbacks in the 2025-26 campaign, leading the SEC in attempts (473) and completions (305), while recording 3,567 passing yards and 28 touchdowns with a 64.5% completion percentage.
