Jonathan Greenard not at Vikings offseason program as trade rumors swirl

The Minnesota Vikings are ready to make some moves during the 2026 NFL Draft. Minnesota has nine total selections in the draft, including the 18th overall pick. One Vikings player is still away from the team amid recent trade rumors.

Edge rusher Jonathan Greenard is not at the team building at the start of Minnesota’s offseason program, per Vikings reporter Ben Goessling.

Greenard has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the offseason, which likely explains his absence. However, Vikings interim GM Rob Brzezinski claim he expects Greenard to stay with the Vikings.

“There’s conversations that take place with respect to players all the time,” Brzezinski said. “Sometimes, things get public, and other times, they don’t. But he’s a really good player, and we’re happy he’s part of our team.”

The Vikings have seemingly changed their tune about trading Greenard, at least publicly.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell addressed Greenard’s trade rumors at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting. He said that Minnesota expects Greenard to remain with the team, but did acknowledge that the team’s offseason discussions are ongoing.

Minnesota only has $4.83 million in cap space heading into the draft. That suggests another offseason move or two are coming, as that may not be enough space to sign their rookie class. But the Vikings can save $18.85 million in cap space by trading Greenard after June 1st.

One team that could be a trade partner for Greenard is the Eagles. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that Philadelphia has checked in on Greenard at “various points” throughout the offseason. If Greenard does get traded, Philadelphia could be the destination.

Ultimately, Greenard’s future in Minnesota is still unclear after not showing up to their offseason program. It will be interesting to see if the situation changes further during draft week.
